The Love’s Family of Companies, Cargill and their affiliates have entered into a unique 50/50 joint venture to produce and market renewable diesel – a green fuel experiencing strong, rising demand. The joint venture is called Heartwell Renewables and will result in the construction of a new production plant and more than 50 jobs in Hastings, Nebraska. The plant will have the ability to produce approximately 80 million gallons annually of renewable diesel.
As part of the joint venture, Cargill will provide feedstock in the form of tallow, a rendered animal fat co-product following protein processing. Once the diesel is produced, Musket, the commodity trading and logistics arm of the Love’s Family of Companies, will transport and market the product in the United States. Heartwell Renewables will be the only entity of its kind to both produce and market renewable diesel all the way to the retail pump.
Power sector revival requires structural changes: Brickwork ratings

Around 60 GW thermal power capacity under stress
The revival of the country’s power sector requires meaningful structural changes, targeting an improvement in the operational efficiency, a reduction in cross-subsidies and cost-reflective tariffs.
According to Vipula Sharma, Director, Brickworks Ratings, in their sectoral report, “The power sector has been one of the major contributors to banks’ increasing NPA issue, with nearly 60 GW of thermal capacity currently being under stress.”
Meeting peak demand
Given the lack of storage facilities for renewable energy in the country, it is still not in a position to meet peak demand. Although SECI has been experimenting with hybrid and round-the-clock projects, their track record in meeting peak demand is yet to be seen.

Direct mass spectrometry combined with automation has potential to significantly increase sample throughputs in routine laboratory analysis. This article describes the performance of direct-analysis selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) integrated with automated thermal desorption. The performance of thermal desorption-SIFT-MS in several air quality applications of conventional thermal desorption-gas chromatography mass spectrometry is described. Compared to gas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis, one of the most significant advantages of thermal desorption tube analysis using SIFT-MS is that volatiles are analysed as they are desorbed, providing at least four-fold greater throughputs.
